The Do’s and Dont’s of Proposing

The 5 Do’s and Don’ts of a Wedding Proposal

Will You Marry Me? These are 4 words you know to say for certain. As for everything else? Planning the perfect proposal moment can be nerve-racking and pretty downright daunting. To help all the lovers out there, we have put together the ultimate list of proposal do’s and don’ts.

Let’s start with the 5 proposal no-nos.

#1 – Don’t stress

It’s a big moment, we understand. Try not to stress out or put yourself in a nervous state. Body signs are easily readable, and she will know if something is up.

#2 – Don’t forget the ring

‘Cause if you liked it, then you should have put a ring on it’. Even though it’s the thought and words that truly count, it won’t feel like the real deal until she’s got a ring on her finger. Book in a consultation with our design team to start planning the perfect ring.

#3 – Bend the knee

Some traditions are traditions for a reason. Nothing symbolises your commitment to her, by popping the knee.

#4 – Lose the audience

This isn’t a hard and fast rule, and some people would love to celebrate this moment with family and friends. Don’t forget that it will be intimate, emotional and sometimes overwhelming, so make sure you know she would be comfortable with an audience first.

#5 – Wait for the right moment

Don’t jump the gun, and make sure you’ve picked the right moment and time in your relationship to propose.

Now, let’s look at the 5 absolute must-do’s.

#1 – Personalise it

Nothing says I love you like showing her that you truly know her. Find a place, song or moment that means something to you both.

#2 – Insure your future

Not an overly exciting tip, but insuring her ring before you propose alleviates the hassle of having to do it after. She will want to show it off to family and friends, so make sure you are prepared beforehand.

#3 – Keep it simple

It sounds really romantic to find a ring in a glass of champagne, or dig it out of a souffle – but there are too many things that can go wrong. Keep it simple, and be cautious with the ring. Stories where the new and adorable puppy accidentally swallows the ring are not so cute.

#4 – Don’t forget to tell her why

Nerves and adrenalin can take over in a second. Take a breath and make sure you tell her why she is the only one for you.

#5 – Keep the secret

The best part about a proposal is the element of surprise. If you’re going to blabber to family and friends, make sure they can keep a secret. Create a clever decoy for the big day. Suggest you are doing something she could never say no to.
